For 37 years I have been actively involved in the independent/disability-rights movement. I helped establish the Will-Grundy Center for Independent Living, serving as its executive director for 27 years. Advocacy is in the core of my being. Those of us with disabilities must be vigilant in making sure that our hard-fought for rights are not weakened in any way. We must also teach our young people about the rich history of the disability-rights movement to ensure that the work that has been conducted for the past 6 decades, carries on well into the future.
