Disability Lead's network continues to lead in the face of an ever-changing world that threatens human rights daily. At the heart of our work, we ensure there are strong disability perspectives in leadership spaces because we believe that our leaders will change the world. By connecting our leaders to civic engagement opportunities, we believe our leaders can and will create solutions for our most intractable social problems because they are inherently disability issues. We want to celebrate our members’ successes and elevate their achievements. Here’s our Q3 update.
In 2022, Disability Lead has identified and made connections to over 200 opportunities for our Members with over 75 successful connections. Some highlights include:
- 4 Members were included in Crain’s Notable Leaders in Community Development list. Congratulations to Gary Arnold, Clare Killy, Emily Blum, and Tara Ahern

- 11 Members were included in Crain’s Notable Black Leaders and Executives list. Congratulations to Becky Brasfield, Falicia Campbell, Candace Coleman, Kareem Dale, Timotheus Gordon Jr, LaShon Gurrola, Vanessa Harris, Whitney Hill, Laura Isaacs, Earl Jordan, and Jewel Ware
- Dan Tun was named in Crain’s Notable Gen X Leaders in Sports
- C. Richards Costes was named an Illinois Equity and Inclusion Commissioner
- Falicia Campbell joined the Amate House’s Board of Directors
- Kenneth Jennings joined Illinois Legal Aid Online’s Board of Directors
- Ann Manikas joined the City of Chicago Casino Community Advisory Council
- Risa Jaz Rifkind is intended to be appointed to the National Council on Disability by President Biden
